These constraints force choices. German runs roughly 30% longer than English, so a dense English sentence often cannot fit at 17 characters per second in German without cutting something. When a Voiceover Serves You Better Than Subtitles
Subtitles are not always the right answer. If viewers must keep their hands and eyes on a task, listening beats reading. If the audience includes workers with limited literacy in any language, audio is the only channel that works. How We Price Transcription and Subtitling
Pricing is per minute of source runtime, with three components you can mix. Transcription is billed at one rate per audio minute, higher for verbatim style, poor audio, or multiple overlapping speakers. Subtitle translation and timing is billed per runtime minute per target language. Rendering, whether burn-in or multi-track packaging, is billed as a flat technical fee per video. Because the quote is built from runtime, you know the full cost before we start; there are no per-word surprises after the fact.
Repetition works in your favor. Training series reuse the same warnings, the same intro sequences, and the same closing instructions. Our tooling detects repeated segments across a batch, so a 40-video series costs meaningfully less per minute than 40 unrelated videos. We prefer your highest-quality master file because burned-in deliverables are re-rendered from the source, and starting from a compressed upload costs you a generation of quality. If your content lives on YouTube, Vimeo, or an LMS, we can usually work from a download link or a platform export. Screen recordings from Teams, Zoom, and Webex are fine too; just tell us if multiple speakers overlap, since that affects the transcription rate.
Should I order SRT files or burned-in subtitles?
Order SRT or VTT sidecar files when the video plays on platforms with caption support, when you want viewers to switch languages, or when content will be updated later, since editing a text file is trivial. Order burned-in subtitles when playback conditions are outside your control: shop-floor kiosks, tablets in the field, files forwarded by WhatsApp, or trade-show loops. Many clients take both, because the sidecar file costs little once the translation exists and the burn-in gives them a foolproof distribution copy. What reading speed do you apply, and why does it matter?
We cap subtitles at 17 characters per second, with a maximum of two lines and a minimum display time of one second. Instructional viewers split their attention between the text and the procedure on screen, often with tools in their hands, so they read slower than someone watching a film. When the speaker outpaces that limit, we condense connective wording but never the technical payload: part numbers, values, units, and warnings are carried over exactly.
